valentine’s day chez LC

This year, by default, Valentine’s Day dinner morphed from a romantic table for two at our favorite NYC haunt to a simpler affair featuring takeout at home. In our opinion, however, feting at home is even more reason to get festive with decor! For takeout chez LC, we paired gorgeous Herend Rothschild Garden China and vintage crystal wine glasses with casual rattan chargers and bohemian block print tablecloth and napkins.

A little secret: our antique Potthast dining table is an irregular size by today’s standards, so we order yardage blockprint cotton on Etsy and have our local tailor create custom tablecloths to match the table’s dimensions– a great hack wherever you are!

to new beginnings…

As part of my quest to embrace optimism, ambition and hope in 2021, I hope to resurrect this little digital diary. While it can feel dauntingly permanent to put ‘pen to paper’, I’ve found that whenever I record my thoughts, archive beautiful bits of inspiration or document mundane daily moments I always get such joy from looking back on a catalog of my life and things that make me happy. Even as tastes or moods change, I’ve never regretted having the chronicles.

So this year, here’s to a small attempt to do just that in this little space– progress over perfection, right?

welcome

Welcome to Lila & Cricket– a modern day diary filled with beauty, nostalgia, character and grace. I believe that certain things can exist simply to make the world more beautiful and that a ‘happy hour’ should last for three. That historical documentaries are underrated, that the grammar police are always right and that steak-frites should be a food group. My happy place is the Adirondacks, made even better with a martini in hand, listening to Fleetwood Mac on a warm summer evening. If time-travel becomes reality I’m headed right to the 1960s, but until then a mint green shift dress will have to do. In the meantime, thank you for stopping by and I hope you’ll come along!
